When Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) relocated to Downtown, it forever changed the face of art in the city. In fact, its first four months in Museum Park saw attendance more than double the entire previous year. Why is it so popular, you might ask? To start, the three-story, 200,000-sqft building itself is amazing (heralded by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, among others), featuring diverse indoor and outdoor spaces by the water for soaking in Miami’s tropical setting and all sorts of art at the same time. Speaking of art, PAMM’s permanent collection features upwards of 2,000 pieces from the 20th and 21st centuries, with a unique focus on American, Latin, Caribbean, Western European, and African artists along the “Atlantic Rim.”
Made at PAMM
This month’s Free First Thursday features hands-on art in the gallery, using pieces on display for inspiration. All ages are encouraged to attend, lending the event its trademark depth of experience for everyone who participates, as each artist motivates the next. Once your masterpiece is finished, consider posting it beside others on social media with the hashtag #MadeAtPAMM.
PAMM honors Black History Month with Free Second Saturday art activities inspired by Romare Bearden’s photo collages and the broad scope of work by Jamaican artist, Nari Ward (both of which are featured at the museum through February 21st).
